Brown sugar is a processed product made by boiling down the juice extracted from sugarcane. Each of Okinawa’s islands-Kohama, Hateruma, Ie, Yonaguni, Iheya, Tarama, Iriomote, and Aguni-produces brown sugar with a unique flavor, resulting from differences in sugarcane varieties and growing conditions.
